Food in Rothenburg

Ryan was finally able to get his Donner Kabob. Same idea as the Greek Gyros. The “Donner” usually has different fillings and sauces but it is the same basic idea. It wasn’t actually that bad. Not something that I would have to have but it was ok. Ryan on the other hand spent 1 ½ driving around the other night looking for a place that was open that sold Donner Kabobs. While we were in Rothenburg we were 2 ½ blocks away when Ryan spotted the sign for them.

Caelyn also got a kick out of the French fries being served in a bowl and with a fork.

After dinner we stopped for some ice cream. A lot of places here in Germany like to shape their ice cream like pasta. We have seen spaghetti, lasagna and a few others. While we were in Rothenburg we tried the spaghetti or “Spaghettieis”.

Spaghettieis is ice cream that is pass though a press to make it look like noodles. The noodles are place over whipped cream and topped with strawberry sauce (pasta sauce). On top of that is shaved white chocolate or coconut (parmesan cheese).

Also of note and of great annoyance to my husband, the plastic rings, that serve as a tamper proof seal, on top of soda bottle. Normally you twist the cap off and the ring remains on the bottle. However, in Germany (big on recycling) the ring comes half way undone to open the bottle and then stays attached to the top. It is not easy to pull off and I have been unable to do so without the assistance of knives or scissors. I believe it is to make the recycling process easier but that is just my guess. Whatever the reason it annoys Ryan greatly!
