Amburg

Ryan worked overnight last night so he had a few hours off today. We drove to Amburg. Beautiful city. We ate dinner at an outdoor café. It is always fun ordering when you are not exactly sure what you are getting :-) but the food wasn’t too bad.

Germans are in no hurry to eat! The waiter or waitress usually come over pretty quickly to take the drink order but then doesn’t come back until she is signaled to do so. Which requires getting their attention. Then after they bring the meal they don’t bring the check until they are asked too. People sit for hours for a meal. Usually there are no free refills at German Restaurants. They usually do not put an ice into their drinks. One good thing is that you usually don’t have to tip as much because most make a good salary and the tips are just “extra” so a large tip is usually not expected.

Ordering is not terribly hard. With the little German I know and what Ryan knows we are usually able to figure out the basics of the dish. Bratwurst, salad, ect. But are sometimes surprised at what exactly we get. Even when we do figure out what we are ordering just about everything taste different over here; from the soda to the sauerkraut. It isn’t bad; just different.

Finally made it to the PX today. It is fairly small. Found out that they don’t have any grills which is what I was going to get Ryan for his birthday. Glad I found out before me and the kiddos walked up there. It is probably two miles from the house. So it save us a trip. Ryan is excited and we will probably go out later this week to pick one out.

School starts within the next couple of weeks here. But the kindergarten does not start until just after Labor Day. Most days Caelyn is excited about going to school.
