We took Caelyn's Girl Scout Troop to Regensburg for the day. By Gril Scout rules all Daisy Scouts have to have a parent with them when we go on field trips. Yay for rules! Mom flew in for the week so she was able to come with us. It was a very cold day! But we managed to stay warm for the most part.
We started the day by meeting at the train station and taking the train to Regensburg. It was about a twenty minute train ride. The girls had a blast and it was fun to see the county side with all the snow.
After we got to Regensburg we took the girls to see some of the historial sites so that they could earn their Regensburg badge. We took them inside the Dom St. Peter. a large and beautiful Cathederal. We also took them to see the stone bridge. We ate bratwurst sandwiches at the base of the brige at an old resturant that has been there forever. (Ok, not really forever but I can't remember how long it has been there.)
After we were done eating we headed to the bus to get to the ice skating area (what the girls were really looking forward too). We ended up missing the bus that we wanted. So we did some more walking to another bus stop. That bus only runs certain times of the day to the areana and there wasn't one for another hour which would have only give the girls about 15 minutes of skating. As we were standing there trying to figure out how we were going to get all of these girls to the areana before it closed we see another bus coming down the street. It was the original bus that we were trying to get on. It was not scheudled to be anywhere near there at that time. But it was so we got on it and it took us a short walk from the arena(God is good all the time!)
The girls had a blast ice skating. I went with Caelyn. She took a number of spills but always got right back up and tried again. We were a little late in getting there so the only skates that fit me were a size too big and way too loose on the ankles and I hadn't been skating in well over 12 years... not a good combination. While I wouldn't call is graceful by any means I did manage to stay on my feet the whole time.
They had little contraptions that the kids could hang on to while they were trying to skate. Not sure if they helped or made it harder. Caelyn did much better without using it and just holding my hand. She did get a little bruise on her face one of the times she fell but she had a blast!
I was so proud of the way she kept getting right back up everytime she fell. (If you have never fallen on the ice, it hurts!)
After that we headed back to the train station. Most of the girls drove home. There were only three girls and their parent that rode the train back. They went to go find a bathroom so we said that we would meet them at the train. We went down to the train platform (I was happy that I was able to figure out the train schedule all by myself!!!) So as we are waiting for the train we do not see the other girls. Caelyn is getting more and more upset (mostly because she was tired) but she wanted to ride the train back with them. She was very concerned that they were going to miss the train. I tried explaining to her that they knew which train that they had to be on (on of the ladies speaks fluent German and was our "tour guide" for the day) and that we couldn't wait for them because the next train wasn't for a couple of hours.
She became so upset that one of the ladies sitting next to us waiting for the train reached in to her bag and pulled out a piece of Christmas chocolate to give to Caelyn. That calmed her down for a bit and she was fine once we got on to the train. Once we got to our stop she saw that they were on the train too, just in another car. She was very happy to see them! Wasn't cute to see her so upset but it was cute to see her so concerned about others.

That was a great day...a bit cold but a lot of fun.
