Upon moving into our house Ryan was given at least a 20 page packet on recycling. It explained that the majority of German landfill are over flowing, therefor recycling is mandatory. Recycling is huge here. There are recycled bins next to most trash cans and various places as you walk around the cities. I have always recycled but it is much easier to do here and they have the facilities to recycle a lot of different materials.
On base they help insure that you recycle. Actually not recycling can result in an article 15 (military’s form of punishment to include loss of pay and/or rank). They also help to remind you to recycle because each house only gets a small dumpster for trash and the dumpsters are only emptied every two weeks.
In our housing community we also get a dumpster for paper. All of our other recycling has to be brought to the sort facility on post. As of yet we have yet to over fill our small dumpster with trash.
Caelyn loves to help recycle. She learned a lot about recycling in pre-k and loves to put her knowledge to practice. Eli also likes to "help" sort everything into its proper bin.
One family member, Ryan, has been a little reluctant to jump on the recycling ban wagon. He does recycle but I can’t say that he does so happily. Any time that he accidentally puts something recyclable into the trash can Caelyn does not hesitate to correct him.
You go Caelyn!
